Check Point Email Security (Harmony Email & Collaboration): Protect Your Inbox with AI

The inbox is your first line of defense. Built-in isn't enough; advanced BEC, ATO, internal phishing need an API-based AI layer. No MX change, minutes. Microsoft 365, Google, Teams, Slack. Phishing/BEC/ATO/DLP in one layer.

Almost every targeted attack on your organization enters through one door: the inbox. Ransomware, data leakage, fraud, account takeover — the starting point is usually an email. The inbox is your organization's first and most critical line of defense; yet in most organizations it's still the weakest link. Check Point Email Security (formerly Harmony Email & Collaboration, originally Avanan) protects that line with AI: it secures your Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and collaboration apps (Teams, Slack, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive) against phishing, BEC, account takeover (ATO), malware, and data loss — in a single layer.

As Check Point's Türkiye partner holding Advanced Partner status and the Email Solution Specialization, Kinetik Bilişim integrates Email Security into your environment in minutes, deploys it with the right policy, and manages threat visibility end to end.

Why Isn't Built-In Protection Enough Alone?

Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace ship with strong built-in protection — but that's a baseline, not a ceiling. Built-in filters catch most mass spam and known malware; they leave gaps against advanced, targeted, "clean-looking" attacks. Because a BEC (CEO fraud) email carries no virus, no malicious link, no suspicious attachment — just a request written to the right person, at the right time, in the right tone. A signature-based filter can't see it. That's why advanced threats need a behavioral, AI-based layer alongside the built-in protection.

We covered this "why an added layer?" question in detail in our Microsoft 365 email security isn't enough article. Email Security fills exactly this gap — it doesn't replace Microsoft 365 Defender; it's added alongside it to catch what Defender misses.

The Architecture Difference: API-Based, Not a Gateway

Traditional email security works with a gateway (SEG) architecture: it changes your MX record and stands like a guard in front of all mail. This model has two big blind spots: it never sees internal correspondence (mail from one compromised account to another), and the MX change creates deployment risk plus delivery latency.

Email Security instead works API-based: it connects directly, from the inside, to Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace. The result:

  • No MX change: Because the delivery path never changes, deployment risk and latency disappear. It installs in minutes.
  • Sees internal and outbound traffic: It catches internal phishing and account takeover (ATO) spread that a gateway misses — because that mail never crosses the perimeter.
  • Covers collaboration apps too: Threats move not only through email but through Teams, Slack, and file sharing. Email Security protects those surfaces as well.

You can find a detailed comparison of the two architectures in our API-based vs Gateway article.

What Does It Protect? Full Coverage in One Layer

Phishing and Zero-Day Threats

Check Point's ThreatCloud AI analyzes every message with more than 50 AI engines. The result: a marked drop in phishing reaching the inbox, real-time sandbox protection against zero-day attacks, and click-time URL analysis. Look-alike and cousin domains are detected via sender reputation and history. The mobile vector is part of this chain: for QR-code (quishing) and SMS-based attacks, full coverage is achieved together with Check Point Mobile Security.

BEC and Account Takeover (ATO)

BEC attacks that carry no malicious payload are caught by contextual anomaly: correspondence-style deviation, domain age, display-name/address mismatch, reply-to manipulation. On the ATO side, behavior is watched — unusual login location/time, hidden mail-forwarding rules, abnormal sending volume. Even when authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC) returns PASS, only behavioral analysis can see a compromised real account.

Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

Most email security is about what comes in; DLP protects what goes out. Sensitive data sent to the wrong recipient, forwarding to personal channels, departing-employee leakage — Email Security watches the outbound direction too. This is a direct subject of your DLP and data-protection obligations.

DMARC Management and Add-on Modules

Email Security extends with modules like DMARC Management, Security Awareness Training (SAT), archiving, leaked-credential detection, and SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM). You can manage your domain authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC) from a single pane and complete the none → reject journey safely.

Email Security by the Numbers

  • 99.9% malware prevention, 99.7% phishing prevention.
  • Up to 99.2% reduction in phishing reaching the inbox.
  • Used by 65,000+ organizations; a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Email Security.
  • Privacy: Check Point processes only metadata; email content stays in your Microsoft 365 / Google tenant — data-protection friendly.

The Center of Your Security Architecture

Email Security is part of Check Point's unified Harmony / Workspace security family and shares the same ThreatCloud AI intelligence as the other layers:

  • Email is the start of most attacks; for phishing that continues on the mobile device, together with Check Point Mobile Security, the inbox + device are protected at two points at once.
  • It shares the same threat intelligence with Endpoint; a single click is cut before it triggers the whole chain.
  • For threat patterns specific to your sector, see our manufacturing, automotive, and other sector analyses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are "Harmony Email & Collaboration" and "Check Point Email Security" the same product? What is Avanan?

Yes, all the same product. Check Point renamed it to Check Point Email Security; Harmony Email & Collaboration is the former name, and Avanan is the acquired origin. The technology and capabilities are the same. We deliberately use all three names, because some organizations still search by the older names.

I have a Microsoft 365 E5 license; do I still need it?

E5 includes Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, the most comprehensive Microsoft protection. Even so, an added behavioral/AI layer adds clear value in areas like internal phishing, sophisticated BEC, ATO, and quishing. The two aren't rivals; they're layered.

Will my MX record change? How long is deployment?

No, MX doesn't change. It connects via API, the delivery path stays the same, and there's no latency. It goes live in minutes; if you like, it first runs in "monitor mode" and reports what you're missing without touching your existing protection.

Is there a data-protection (KVKK/GDPR) concern?

Check Point processes only metadata; email content stays in your Microsoft 365 / Google tenant. This approach eases data-protection compliance. The DLP module also supports your obligations by preventing data leakage.

Do I need to remove my existing gateway/SEG?

Not required; the two can run in parallel for a while. But once the API solution is live, most organizations find the SEG adds no extra value and can be removed to cut cost and latency.
